Many unexplained and rare occurring by nature are not only mystery to scientists who study them but also to people who have only heard or seen them on television or internet.

Self moving rocks, strange lighting in sky, endless pit of burning fire like hell and many more unknown and mysterious things are present on Earth and you should know about it.

These occurring are almost unheard by many people so buckle up as we're diving straight to the list.

#10. Sailing Stones

 

Yes these stones can literally cover distances as big as a football field. It was later discovered that this is due to the frozen rain water in the lake bed with the help of the wind.

The mysterious green flash noticed when the sun pierces the horizon is an all too familiar phenomenon. This is actually because the atmosphere splits light from the sun just like a glass prism to light

This phenomenon still remains a mystery due to its scarcity and unpredictability. Though similar effects have been produced through laboratory experiments but it still largely remains a mystery.

Simply put, this optical phenomenon occurs when light from the sun interacts with ice suspended in the clouds. They come in various forms and colors.

#4. Cicada Life Cycle

In East coast of North America, in the dry forests, this phenomenon occurs once every 17 years.

The nymphs of Cicadas come out from the ground (often at night) and there will be billions of them (yes, billions!) marching towards the nearest tree and they start climbing the trees. 

This is the biggest insect emergence that occur on the planet. They reach the top and shed their skin and come out in their winged forms. 

This transformation takes one full night and they are ready to fly the next morning.

 

They swarm the forest the next day and their sounds fill the air. They fly, some rest on leaves and some on the ground. Some fall in the water.

 
This is once-in-a-lifetime lucky feast for the carnivores. Be it the turtles in the water, be it the birds, be it the cats or other animals in the wild. 

The cicadas are so much in number that all the animals fill their stomach overwhelmingly. The cicadas keep coming and the surviving cicadas begin the process of mating and lay eggs that ultimately fall on the ground. 

This is literally the job of cicadas (laying eggs in numbers to survive the odds).

 

 

In just a few days, all the cicadas die and they fall to the ground too. The forest goes silent. The cicadas here will not be heard again for another seventeen years! (The picture below shows the dead cicadas).

 

Having fed the predators, the cicadas leave one last gift for the forest when they die. The nutrients that cicadas have taken for seventeen years (while underground) are all given back at once (when they die). 

This brings an excellent growth for the trees. This is regarded as the single largest dose of fertilizer in the nature.

Such a designer the nature is, in protecting itself and its dependents. It's shame, we are destroying the nature and ultimately the humanity, in the name of development.

#3. Northern Lights

Location: Above the magnetic poles of the northern and southern hemispheres of the Earth. (Polar regions)

The bright dancing lights of the aurora are actually collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth’s atmosphere. 

These collisions vary in color due to the type of gas particles that are colliding. The most common auroral color, a pale yellowish-green, is produced by oxygen molecules located about 60 miles above the earth. 

Rare, all-red auroras are produced by high-altitude oxygen, at heights of up to 200 miles. Nitrogen produces blue or purplish-red aurora.

#2. Lenticular Clouds

Lenticular clouds, technically known as altocumulus standing lenticularis, are stationary lens-shaped clouds that form at high altitudes, normally aligned at right-angles to the wind direction. 

Where stable moist air flows over a mountain or a range of mountains, a series of large-scale standing waves may form on the downwind side. Under certain conditions, long strings of lenticular clouds can form, creating a formation known as a wave cloud. 

Lenticular clouds have been mistaken for UFOs (or “visual cover” for UFOs) because these clouds have a characteristic lens appearance and smooth saucer-like shape.

#1. Bio luminescence

It is a glow produced by algal blooms. The blooms carry and support millions of the bioluminescent dinoflagellates. Bioluminescence is used by dinoflagellates as a defense mechanism to escape predators. 

Bioluminescence can really only be seen in the darkness, so you have to be in a light free zone to witness it. The plankton light up whenever they are disturbed, though only for a moment. 

The greater the disturbance, the brighter the glow — boats typically create the most intense effects.
